In this fast-paced digital world, businesses and organizations leverage on the use of the websites, digital channels or social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, blogs to post their Information, Education, Communication (IEC) materials and marketing collateral. The goal is to promote their products and services to wider audience from different walks of life, keep up with the current trends to stay relevant in the field, get broader exposure, and engage clients/customers.


The essential tool in the digital world to write compelling and evoking contents that will really leave a mark in your audience hence increase visibility is through creative writing. One must employ different writing techniques and styles to capture the attention of your prospect partners, clients, or investors.


Contrary to news writing, creative writing utilizes various storytelling techniques in pitching ideas to make it more persuasive and convincing. Businesses can create content that resonates with their target audience and can evoke emotions and create strong visual images by using sensory and descriptive language.


It is for this reason that the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) is organizing a 2-part virtual learning sessions on creative writing. This first part will be conducted on April 28, 2023, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM via Zoom.


At the end of this first session, the participants will be able to:

· Appreciate the importance of creative writing for their companies/businesses

· Familiarize the basic concepts and foundational topics of creative writing

· Know the different writing styles for a specific topic and for a specific audience

· Enhance the writing skills of the participants to increase company's media mileage


The topics to be covered are the following:

Topic 1: Introduction to the Art of Storytelling

· What is Story Telling?

· Why is it important for businesses?

· The basic structure of a story

· Elements of a good story


Topic 2: Understanding the Different Writing Styles

· Understanding the different writing styles - expository, persuasive, descriptive, and narrative

· The importance of choosing the right style for the right audience

· Techniques to write effectively in each style


Topic 3: The Elements of a Good Story

· Techniques to use these elements to create a compelling story

· Examples of successful stories and their impact on media mileage


The training will use a combination of lectures, discussions, and exercises. Participants will be encouraged to share their experiences and ideas throughout the training to facilitate the learning process.
