In taking part of the month-long celebration of the World Bamboo Day on September 18, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines Cagayan de Oro/Northern Mindanao branch is spearheading again another Bamboo conference. With constant and diverse activities for the past 2 years through face-to-face seminars and trainings pre-pandemic and now virtual events through webinars post-pandemic, ECCP CDO continues to strive and highlight one of its advocacies – Bamboo and Sustainability.


Kaway-KAWAYAN: Revisiting the Growing Bamboo Industry in the Philippinesis a webinar that aims to discuss the relevance of modernizing the Bamboo industry to meet international demands, pumping up the Philippine GDP sustainably, and at the same time aid in the environmental concerns of the nation featuring the stakeholders and biggest contributors to aid the development of Bamboo in the country and internationally. This webinar will be held on September 27, 2021 from 10:00AM-12:00NN via Zoom, Take part in this event and attain valuable information on the potentials and growth of the Philippine Bamboo industry.

    Dr. Hans Freiderich

    Global Ambassador at World Bamboo Organization

    Dr Hans Friederich FRGS is a Dutch geographer with a PhD from the University of Bristol, UK. Currently, he is living in Gozo, Malta. He is a Member of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development.
    He is global Ambassador of the World Bamboo Organisation and Senior Advisor to the European Bamboo Programme which is managed by Bamboologic in the Netherlands. Bamboologic is developing commercial bamboo plantations in southern Europe, starting in Portugal.
    From 2014 to 2019, Hans was the Director-General of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organisation(INBAR), a treaty-based Inter-Governmental Organisation with its Headquarters in Beijing, China. In this capacity he was Observer to the UN General Assembly.
    Prior to his appointment in China, Hans was the Regional Director for Europe of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) based in the Headquarters in Switzerland. Before his appointment in Switzerland Hans lived and worked for approximately 5-years periods each in Botswana, Kenya, Thailand and Vietnam. When he left Vietnam in 1999 he was awarded the Medal for Science and Technology in recognition of his services provided to the National Environment Agency.

    Chairman at Personal Holdings Corp.

    Mr. Conrado Perreras is currently the chairman of Personal Holdings Corp. He also authors the book titled "Bamboo: Timber of the 21st Century". He is an economist by training, a marketer by profession and an entrepreneur by choice. He also advocates for life on the environment, overall wellness and good governance. He finished his Bachelor of Arts Degree Major in Economics and Minor in Mathematics at San Beda College graduating at the top of his class (Magna Cum Laude) and later on pursued his Master of Science in Industrial Economics at the Center for Research and Communication (now the University of Asia and the Pacific). He completed all his academic requirements but left without finishing his thesis for a job at PCIBank. He also graduated at the top of his class with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from St. Dominic College of Asia.

    Director of USTP Systems

    Dr. Cubio is currently the Director for Research and Innovation Centers, USTP System of the University of Science and Technology of the Southern Philippines (USTP). He is also an Associate Professor III at the College of Engineering and Architecture of the same university since 2016 up to present. For almost 2 years, he was the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of USTP Claveria Campus. Dr. Cubio took up Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering at the Visayas State University year 1999. He finished his Masteral Degree in Engineering focusing on Environment and Energy Engineering last 2006 at Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan. Last 2012, he earned his doctorate degree in engineering focused on Renewable Energy at MSU-IIT.

    Architect/Agripreneur at Bamboo Grassroots Atelier

    Arch. Jed Michael de Guzman is a registered and licensed architect (RLA). He is experienced in Resort and Eco-Tourism Development, supplemented by craftsmanship through utilization of Bamboo and indigenous materials. He is also an advocate of referencing grassroots technology and inclusive development. Currently, he owns the Bamboo Grassroots Atelier where he does Bamboo Construction Workshops in Bukidnon, Zamboanga del Sur, Antipolo, and more to come all over the country. He used to be a Project Architect Associate Manager of Ayalaland and Hotels and Resorts Corp. Mr. de Guzman graduated last 2009 with a degree in Architecture at UP Diliman. He also took up a certificate course on Organic Agriculture at UP Los Banos Open University to delve deeper into the organic agri network.
